Responsibilities of a Vacation Rental Property Owner

South Padre Island has a Short Term Vacation Rental Ordinance which requires any property owner who ADVERTISES their property for short-term (less than 30 days) rental on South Padre Island to meet certain requirements including registration and collection and remittance of HOT (Hotel Occupancy Tax).  These requirements can be overwhelming and time-consuming.  There is a “Property Owner’s Toolbox” on the City’s website which you can find under the Related Links tab on the HOT Tax and Short-Term Rental page at www.myspi.org.  Of course, when you turn your property over to a professional vacation rental manager (VRM) who is a member of the VRMA-SPI, our Padre Vacation Promise ensures that all of these responsibilities will be handled for you by your VRM.
